STEN and DERATE were used in a =Monday= Times xword? WTF?

Well, Tuesday. The puzzles go online at 10pm, so I often do the puzzle before bed. I don't like "STEN" but it's reasonable for a Tuesday. "DERATE" is definitely Thursday level, however.

How were they clued? How difficult they are is very dependent on the clues, not just the word itself.

I haven't done the Times xword in forever, but since Will Shortz took over (Games Mag people represent!) I've been happy with its style. Shortz is my kind of puzzle guy.

"STEN" was "British gun," which, at four letters, is obvious to regular xworders (though it's one of those words I've never seen outside of a xword, so I don't like it).

"DERATE" was "Lower the allowed electrical capacity of," which google claims is an accurate definition, but having never heard the word before, it looks completely made up to me. Fortunately only the final "E" had a nasty cross ("Adlai's 1956 running mate", "ESTES"), so it was gettable.

It seems I've accidentally allowed my Games Mag subscription to lapse. I need to fix that soon.
