Opera in Chicago

So it's my spring opera weekend in Chicago. I had dinner at Leona's tonight (the usual baked garlic chicken), followed by Lucia di Lammermoor at Lyric Opera. Typical silly opera plot (the lovers die at the end, of course), plus the bizarreness of a bunch of Scottish nobles singing in Italian. And one of the three leads was somewhat weak (Ashley Holland as Enrico). But Marcelo Alvarez as Edgardo and Natalie Dessay as Lucia were spectacular, so it was a still a wonderful evening. Dessay's mad scene in Act III was absolutely stunning. And then it was snowing walking back to the hotel. Woohoo!

Tomorrow night, Madama Butterfly.

You've clearly been away from Chicago too long if snow gets a Woohoo!

What are your feelings about snow right now?

I'd wager they're slightly different..

Well, it's quite pretty, and it'd be lots of fun. Except that down here, they don't have enough plows or salt to keep the streets clear, so I'm trapped in my apartment at the moment ('cause, you know, I don't mind driving in snow, but I don't think it's entirely possible to drive in 14" of snow.)

Natlie Dessay? Wow. She's wonderful.
