I suppose this can be taken of evidence either that a University of Chicago education forever dooms one to an unabashedly pretentious and unreadably academic style of writing or that this Flesch-Kincaid scale is entirely frivolous twattle. Unfortunately, I fear the former is the more likely scenario.

Date: 2003-09-08 09:18 pm (UTC)Have you ever read the book The Pooh Perplex (by Frederick C. Crews)? Though not the funniest 'essay' in the collection(from a perspective external to those of us who survived the institution), "A Complete Analysis of Winnie-the-Pooh" uses only 50 cent words, sentences a paragraph in length, and only references other UofC publications. It's a hoot.
