Libraries

Earlier this week, several of the blogs I read mentioned that various public libraries maintain Amazon wish lists. Obviously, I think this is a great idea. (And, at this point, I could ramble on about the need for a vendor-independent site that facilitates wishlist management, but I'll save that for another time).

Anyways, it occurred to me that I hadn't actually visited a public library in many years. So, tonight I decided to head over to the Wake County North Regional Library to get myself a library card and do a bit of browsing. I was pleasantly surprised by the selection. They actually have enough Science Fiction and Horror that they each get their own section. And they even carry selected titles from small presses like Cemetery Dance and Subterranean Press. I was quite shocked to discover they even have a few signed limiteds (though none that I don't have myself).

Anyways, I ended up borrowing the 2002 O. Henry Prize Stories anthology. I'm always meaning to read these anthologies, but never get around to actually buying them. I have to say, I'm quite pleased to have once again become conscious of the existence of libraries.
